TEATRO LEO AMICI

Lago di Monte Colombo

In 1989, the Leo Amici Theatre was inaugurated on RAI 2 in the live broadcasting of the “Merry Christmas from the Center of Italy” programme presented by Piero Vigorelli and Carmen Lasorella, with a performance by Carlo Tedeschi’s theatrical company. The theatre is located on the shores of the Monte Colombo lake in  “The Little Village Out of this World”.  It took only three months to build it with the hard work and dedication of the young volunteers of  the “Dare (to give)” Association, under the guidance of Carlo Tedeschi and Maria Di Gregorio who successfully assisted in turning Leo Amici’s vision and dreams for the Little Village into a reality.

The amphitheatre has only 300 seats but succeeds in immerging fully, the spectators in every scene of the performance. The stage measures 10 x 12,50 metres and the laminated wooden dome provides optimum acoustics.  The dressing rooms and classrooms of the Academy are concealed under the stage area.

Carlo Tedeschi  first gave life to his theatrical company when he staged the musical Sicuramente Amici (Surely Friends) in 1985. The musical toured for ten years in major Italian Theatres, rehearsing under Orfei circus tents before the Leo Amici Theatre was created.

Following its inauguration, the theatre also became the seat of the Art and Professional Training Academy (Accademia D’arte  e Formazione Professionale) in agreement with the Royal Academy of Dance, in  London, for the training of talented artists, dancers, singers and actors.
This is the theatre where Carlo Tedeschi  has realized 18 original Italian musicals, whilst continuing to give time to his humanitarian work, amongst which included educating and helping young people to discover  the natural beauty of the world and learn to value and appreciate their own qualities.
Today, the Leo Amici Theatre, is described as the Temple for  Italian musicals.

In July 2009, work began on the Pact of Light - a musical about human rights set 12,000 years ago. The scenery, choreography, music, special effects, lights, costumes and make-up are all designed to create the magic of the legend of the Lake of Piediluco.

Carlo Tedeschi researched historical and photographic information on the Lake and supervised the work to create the special scenery that,  continuously in movement, reproduces the wonder of nature, ever-present and a real star of the show.   The  lighting  and innovative special effects transport the spectator  into the amazing setting of the wonderful legend. Costumes, accessories, masks and make-up are the result of the author’s research in travelling throughout the whole of Italy over many years. The melodies and the words of the songs were composed in 1987 during a pause in the first tour of Sicuramente Amici in Cerchio (Avezzano). Accompanied by the guitar of Giancarlo De Matteis and inspired by the words of the writing of Leo Amici; words and melodies flowed from the creative understanding between Maria  Di Gregorio and Carlo Tedeschi. The words of Leo Amici still  resound today as the voice of the narrator in Pact of Light.

The result:  new and extraordinary dimensions to a musical, where marvellous technological effects merge and interact with the actors on stage to create a brilliant im-Pact of light!
